Best Free AI Headshot Generators in 2026 (Tested, With No Catches)
Free shouldn't mean a bait-and-switch. The best free AI headshot is the one you can actually download before paying.
What “free” actually means with AI headshots
Most “free” AI headshot pages are trial teasers: you upload photos, but you only see a watermarked preview or you must pay before any image unlocks. A genuinely free offer gives you real, usable headshots you can download and judge. That distinction decides this list.
- Free headshots you keep. Real downloads, no forced payment to see the result.
- Free preview only. You upload, but the output is blurred, watermarked, or locked behind checkout.
- Money-back trial. Not free — you pay first and hope for a refund.
- No trial at all. You commit before seeing a single photo.
How we tested the free offers
We signed up for each service, uploaded the same three selfies, and recorded whether we could download a usable headshot without paying. Price, image count, turnaround and how the free tier fits the full product all count. The result:
| Tool | Free offer | Paid from | Images | Score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AIHeadshotNow ⭐ Editor's pick | 3 free headshots | $29 | 30–90 | 9.4 |
| HeadshotPro | None | $29 | 40–140 | 9.0 |
| Aragon AI | None | $35 | 20–100 | 8.8 |
| BetterPic | None | $35 | 50–150 | 8.6 |
| Secta Labs | None | $49 | 100–300+ | 8.5 |
Only AIHeadshotNow offers free headshots you can download and keep before paying. Others require payment upfront. Scores use the same six weighted dimensions as our full 2026 comparison (likeness, realism, wardrobe & backgrounds, speed, price, privacy). Indicative only.
The best free AI headshot generators
AIHeadshotNow — the only one that's truly free to start
AIHeadshotNow gives you 3 free headshots from your own selfies, with no credit card and no locked preview. You pick from 77 outfits, 41 backgrounds, 78 hairstyles and 10 poses, get the set in about 3 minutes, and only pay the $29 for 30 images if you like them. Your uploads are deleted after processing and never used to train a model. It scores 9.4 in our testing — the highest of any tool here, free or paid.
HeadshotPro, Aragon AI, BetterPic, Secta Labs — paid only
Each of these is a strong paid tool (HeadshotPro for teams, Aragon for realism, BetterPic for style count, Secta for retouching), but none offers a free headshot you can download. You pay $29–$49 before you see a result, which makes them poor choices if your first question is “can I try this free?”
Free vs paid: when to upgrade
The free tier is enough to judge likeness and style. Upgrade when you need volume or a specific wardrobe/background mix:
- Stay free if you only need one or two profile photos and want to test realism first.
- Go Standard ($39 / 50) if you want outfit and background variety for one role.
- Go Pro ($59 / 90) if you need looks across contexts — LinkedIn, a team page, a speaker bio.
- Credits last 365 days, so you can spread generations across the year.

Bottom line

Everyone else asks for money before you see a photo. Start free, judge it yourself, and upgrade only when you're ready.
